I haven’t anticipated anything in a while as much as the release of Tha Carter IV on Monday, Aug. 29.
It’s strange because this week ironically marks the beginning of my fourth and final year of college, but I’m mostly looking forward to the crazy wordplay that is about to bust through the speakers of my Civic rather than the 18th century literature that I’ll be reading nightly.
I suppose I’m still trying to cling on to a summer marked by some equally-enjoyable releases like Beyonce’s 4 and Kanye and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne. Tracks such as “Party” and “No Church for the Wild” perfectly described my summer lifestyle.
I loved every minute of my late-late nights with friends and countless reckless experiences, but I guess now it’s time for me to almost grow up.
But, I’m not ready, guys. Really. I just wanna jam. So I’m going to continue to pretend that this highly anticipated album is all I have to anticipate.
I’m also going to pretend that Lil Wayne spent all that time in the clinker conjuring up rhymes just for my personal enjoyment. And I’ll pretend that he’s crooning “How to Love” solely for me.
Okay, maybe I have a little crush. I guess I have a thing for facial tattoos. But if Tha Carter IV is just for me, then Lil Wayne secretly knows what’s up.
That little boy in a cap and gown smirking on the cover art embodies exactly how I’ll feel at the end of this short year—a tad too small to be where I am, not quite ready for the real world or a real job.
Even Wayne himself talked about retiring after this release so he can take better care of his children and family.
Things inevitably change, whether we are ready for them or not. But, I’m not quite there yet.
So, welcome back to the game, Wheezy. And, welcome back OCU seniors and not-quite-seniors.
Let’s make this fourth, third, second, first, or even fifth year worth a milli.
