France became the first nation to ban burqas anywhere in public, according to the Huffington Post.
The law requires that a woman caught wearing a burqa, a veil sometimes worn by Muslim women, must either pay a $215 fine or take “special citizenship classes.”
Three women wearing veils along with about a dozen people protested the ban in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral Monday.
Police claim two of the women were detained because the protest was unauthorized.
