Arkansas’ Supreme Court removed Act I today, a 2008 ballot measure that barred same-sex couples from adopting, according to the Huffington Post.
The court ruled that the ban was an invasion of privacy.
The American Civil Liberties Union fought against the ban. Rita Sklar, executive director of the ACLU of Arkansas, supported the court’s decision.
“The court clearly saw that this ban violated the constitutional rights of our clients and thousands of other Arkansans,” she said.
The Family Council Action Committee defended the law and was disappointed with the ruling. FCAC President Jerry Cox called the decision a “classic example of judicial tyranny.”
