After men’s basketball coach Kevin Morrissey announced that he will not return next year, officials began looking to fill the vacated position.
Ray Harper resigned from the role in April 2008 after serving three years, according to Student Publications archives.
Athletics Director Jim Abbott said he is searching for someone to fill Morrissey’s role.
“We currently have several applicants who are interested in the position,” he said.
A committee has been established to hire the new coach, who will be announced within the next few weeks.
Officials want a coach that can represent the university well in the community both on and off campus, Abbott said.
“We’re really looking for someone who’s had fundraising experience among other things,” he said. “The job qualifications are listed on OCU’s Web page.”
Freshman Guard Mark Anderson said he was recruited by Morrissey and is unhappy about the coach’s departure.
“It’s not a good situation for the team because it leaves some uncertainty with who all Morrissey recruited,” he said. “With the new person, I’m not certain they will want to keep us or if they will pick up new people.”
