Senators passed a new piece of legislation Tuesday at their weekly Student Senate meeting.
The emergency bill, authored by Sens. Justin Blumer (law) and Sooner Davenport (social sciences), allotted Phi Alpha Delta $200 to purchase T-shirts.
The shirts will be used to expand the fraternity’s recruitment, Davenport said. The legislation needed to be passed immediately because Spring Break being next week would hinder recruitment efforts, she said.
In other news, OCU Mini Speaks will be hosted from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, March 10 outside the caf in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center, Sen. John Davis (law/graduate at-large) said. Due to a conflict with the scheduled March 24 event, OCU Speaks will be hosted April 7, Davis said.
Big Event will be hosted from 2-8 p.m. April 23 at Frontier City, said Jessi Pingel, chief commissioner for Student Activities Council. An all-you-can-eat barbeque buffet will be served from 4-7 p.m. in a private pavillion, she said. A pass includes free parking, food and park admission, Pingel said.
Tickets for the event are about a $55 value, she said. This is more value than past Big Events hosted in places such as Bricktown, Pingel said.
Senators also discussed future methods for handling allotments from university organizations.
The Senate should work to correct mistakes made this year and communicate with organizations about requesting allotments, said John Riesenberg, SGA president.
Allotments are due via e-mail by Friday, March 11.
Two new senators were sworn in at the meeting.
