Student organizations raised their voices for a cause on March 3 at Spring Sing.
Five student organizations sang a variety of remixed songs during the event in Petree Recital Hall in Wanda L. Bass Music Center. Organizations included Delta Alpha Chi, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Sigma, and Alpha Phi.
Blue Key National Honors Society hosted the event, which raised $300 for YWCA and Ronald McDonald House.
Kappa Sigma fraternity was awarded first place by a panel of four judges who are university employees. The fraternity also was awarded honors from Blue Key members.
Gamma Phi Beta came in second place, followed by Alpha Phi in third.
Kappa Sigma’s skit had a “Noah’s Ark” theme. The performance told of a winter storm hitting OCU and an intense heat wave that followed, causing a massive flood. Their solution was to build an ark and gather two students of every major.
After a montage and a rendition of Mulan’s “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” the Kappa Sigma boys sailed away to a brighter future and first place.
Tim Johnson, theater freshman, was excited to win.
“It feels awesome because we put so much hard work into it,” he said.
It’s funny because the fraternity hadn’t finished putting their skit together until last night, Johnson said.
Michael Steinman, film production sophomore, said he was excited about winning too.
“A lot of people stepped up in our house,” he said. “There was a lot of good competition tonight, and it was great seeing what everyone brought to the table.”
