Relay For Life committee members are hosting “Power Purple Week” to promote the April event to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The purpose of the week is to excite and inform the campus community about ways they can participate and fundraise for the race.
Katie Alsup, event co-chairwoman, is encouraging everyone to get involved.
“Cancer doesn’t sleep,” she said. “It doesn’t discriminate against who you are, where you’re from or how much money you have.
“It’s something that can be cured and so I don’t see why we shouldn’t try.”
Activities for the week will be from from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday outside the caf in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. General information about Relay, including tribute signs for those who lost their lives to cancer or survived will be sold for $1.
Emma Velez, event co-chairwoman, encourages everyone to sign up and help support the American Cancer Society.
“The American Cancer Society has done so many significant things within the past 10 years,” she said. “They have had a hand in every significant advance in cancer research as far as donor dollars go.
“We can be a part of finding a cure and making sure other young people don’t hear that they have cancer or anyone for that matter.”
Relay For Life begins at 7 p.m. April 1 on the Quad Lawn and lasts until 7 a.m. April 2. To start a team, join a team or donate money go to relayforlife.com/okcokcu.edu.
