OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trounced Northwestern Oklahoma State 99-43 for its fourth consecutive win Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Starr Fairbanks, a senior from Cincinnati, scored a game-high 20 points while grabbing four rebounds. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA Division I women’s basketball, moved to 23-2, 18-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU has averaged 88.8 points a game in its four-game win string. The Stars reached 90 points for the 12th time this season.
“Our kids kept a good focus,” OCU coach Rob Edmisson said. “The kids are playing the game within the game. We charted 39 deflections that first half. Their first-half scoring was indicative of our defensive effort.”
Lauren Gober, a sophomore from Newcastle, Okla., added 17 points while firing in five 3-pointers for the Stars.
Taylor Booze, a senior from Duncanville, Texas, chipped in 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Desiree Jeffries, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, had 13 points, five rebounds and two steals for OCU. Chasity Workman, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
OCU sank 50.8 percent from the field and upped its percentage to 56.3 percent in the second half. Fairbanks sank 7 of 10 shots from the floor.
“Lauren Gober shot the ball well,” Edmisson said. “Starr had 20 points. Chasity is coming off the bench and doing good things for us.”
The Stars took advantage of 30 Northwestern turnovers to score 34 points. OCU led 51-18 at halftime.
OCU built a 97-41 lead on Cara Pugh’s jumper with 1:51 remaining for the Stars’ largest advantage of the game. Northwestern managed 28.1 percent shooting from the field. Audrey Richmond led Northwestern with only nine points.
The Stars take on USAO at 6 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena. OCU will recognize its seniors that night.
