OKLAHOMA CITY — A professor at Oklahoma City University has been named editor of two academic journals dedicated to French philosophy.
Scott Davidson, professor and chairman of the Philosophy Department at OCU, will edit the new e-journal Etudes Ricoeuriennes/Ricoeur Studies. It is dedicated to Paul Ricoeur, who is widely recognized as one of the most distinguished philosophers of modern times.
The journal is administered through the University of Pittsburgh’s University Library System, a national leader in open-access digital publishing.
Davidson was also recently named one of the editors of the Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy, also managed by the University of Pittsburgh.
Ricoeur was the recipient of several prestigious philosophy awards including the Grand Prix from the Académie Française in 1991, the Balzan Prize for Philosophy in 1999 and the Library of Congress’ John W. Kluge Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Human Sciences in 2004. In 2010, the Fonds Ricoeur, an archive and research facility dedicated to his intellectual legacy, was established at the Institut Protestant de Théologie in Paris.
The Ricoeur journal is an international and bilingual peer-reviewed project devoted to the study of his works. It seeks to continue Ricoeur’s dialogue across the disciplines through critical appraisals. It also welcomes original contributions from the various intellectual movements and themes that Ricoeur engaged in his work.

The Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy published its inaugural issue in an electronic, open-access format. Although it is rooted in the discipline of philosophy, the journal also publishes interdisciplinary extensions and explorations of French and Francophone thought. The journal publishes peer-reviewed academic articles and book reviews written in French and English.
The journal was founded in 1989 by Colette Michael as the Bulletin de la Société Américaine de Philosophie de Langue Française and then later published as the Journal of French Philosophy.
The current and past contents of the journal will be fully searchable and available in full-text to scholars throughout the Francophone world at the website www.jffp.org. The journal thus seeks to foster international communication and collaboration between scholars. It operates in coordination with The Société Américaine de Philosophie de Langue Française.
