Ty Fanning and Dillon Horner, acting sophomores, will be on set next month — not as actors, but as co-directors. The two will work for the first time to help portray a script they co-wrote.
The movie, titled “In Bloom,” will tentatively be filmed Feb. 20 and Feb. 25-27 on and around campus, said Erin Sanzo, unit production manager for the film.
The film will portray a college student who has paranoia, said Nathan Gardocki, OCU alumnus and producer of the film. The movie will be 10-15 minutes in length.
“Dillon and I just really love film and are really into it, but decided we would write something together,” Fanning said. “The story just kind of came out of itself.”
The movie was allotted $750 on Jan. 25 by Student Senate, but directors still are trying to raise more funds, Sanzo said. The students originally requested more than $1,000.
“We’re considering more options for fundraising, like asking our families and friends to donate,” she said. “We wanted to secure funds before we began casting.”
The film will feature two main actors portraying the female student and a male professor, Sanzo said.
Actors who will portray the roles still are to be determined, she said. Callbacks will be hosted Jan. 28 following open auditions hosted Jan. 24, Sanzo said.
Sanzo said she anticipates 30-70 students to get involved with the production. Students who auditioned and are not cast in the main roles will be cast as extras, she said.
“We’re looking for about 30-35 background actors,” Sanzo said. “Casting will be based on availability.”
Filming will be for 13 hours daily and participants tentatively will be provided with lunch, which is a professional film industry standard, Sanzo said. Student directors also are looking for help behind the scenes, she said.
Gardocki said he’s looking forward to working on the film with students.
“I think it’s a good opportunity for film students and acting students to work together,” he said.
