OKLAHOMA CITY– The OCU Wind Philharmonic’s final performance of 2010 will spotlight flute soloists and graduate conductors from the Bass School of Music. The free concert will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 2 in Petree Recital Hall.
The evening kicks off with the second movement of Auf Wellingtons Sieg bei Vittoria, Op. 9 by Ludwig van Beethoven, under the baton of graduate conductor Christopher Hall. Graduate student Dawn Forcina will conduct Sarabande and Polka from Malcolm Arnold’s ballet Solitaire.
Flutist Deanna Acree will be featured in the Wind Philharmonic’s presentation of the opening movement of Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major, K. 313. Fellow flutist Thomas Hamilton will take the spotlight in Charles Tomlinson Griffes’ Poem for Flute and Orchestra. Matthew Mailman, now in his 15th year as conductor of the Wind Philharmoinc, will be on the podium for both, and will conclude Thursday’s program with the five-movement Symphony No. 3 by Vittorio Giannini.
Spring 2011 Wind Philharmonic concerts are set for March 3, highlighting the music of Leonard Bernestein, Ron Nelson, Percy Grainger, Ottorino Respighi and Vincent Persichetti and the annual children’s concerts and instrumental petting zoo, scheduled for April 26.
