Streetlights adorned with festive garlands on the Quad Lawn and residence hall plaques tied with red bows only can mean one thing— the OCU community is ready to celebrate Christmas.
Light the Campus, an annual event, started by Brenda McDaniel, the former first lady, will be tonight in the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. See Page 1 story in the Dec. 1 issue of The Campus.
We are pleased that the first lady Jan Henry and President Robert Henry decided to continue the university tradition initiated by their predecessors. Not only does the event bring the community together, but it also reminds us that the holiday season should be a time for giving.
Student organizations gave back to OCU last week by participating in One Give: Christmas Edition, an event initiated by Student Government Association’s Student Activities Council.
The event required volunteers to complete various tasks to prepare the campus for the traditional ceremony. Tasks ranged from wrapping garlands above food bars in the caf to arranging a miniature Christmas town display in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
We encourage you to ask yourself what you will do to give back this holiday season. Will you bring a toy or canned food donation to Light the Campus for those in need? Will you drop your spare change into a red Salvation Army bucket as a bell rings outside the doors of Penn Square Mall, 1901 NW Expressway? Will you give up your holiday relaxation time to serve food to the homeless at City Rescue Mission, 1131 Enterprise Ave.?
Every bit of giving helps.
