OKLAHOMA CITY– The first lady Jan Ralls Henry received the Marilyn Douglass Memorial Award today from Governor Brad Henry at the 35th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards. The award recognizes an outstanding Oklahoma Arts Council member and was established in 1980, upon the deaths of Marilyn Douglass, a council member, and her husband Rev. Richard Douglass.
Sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council, 15 individuals and two organizations were honored for their contributions to the arts in their communities or throughout the state. The ceremony was today at the State Capitol.
Jan Henry served as a member of the governor-appointed Oklahoma Arts Council from 2004 to 2010. Henry served as vice-chairwoman of the Council, and chairwoman of the State Arts Collection Committee during her tenure on the council.
A practicing dentist in Oklahoma City, Henry is a founding member and past board president of Windsong Chamber Choir. She and her husband, Robert Henry, president of OCU, are avid collectors of Native and western art.
Henry is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma School of Dentistry. She is a published researcher in the field of dentistry, and a former Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Oklahoma Dentistry Magazine. Henry is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, and has received awards from the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Association of Women Dentists.
