A dean at a college in Dover, Del., mistakenly forwarded a confidential e-mail this week, which listed the names of 18 students at risk of flunking out, The News Journal, a local newspaper, reported. The initial e-mail originally was sent to academic advisers. It described one student as having dug a hole “deeper than the mine shaft in Chile.” About 2,400 students attend the university, Wesley College.
Technology officials recalled the message when administrators discovered the error, but not before “a dozen or so” students had opened it, a Wesley official told The News Journal. College officials reportedly had apologized to the named students for the mistake, which was a breach of federal privacy law.
