Students will raise their voices and model fashion on campus to raise money for juvenile diabetes research.
“Fashion Now” is the name of this fundraiser that will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Kirkpatrick Auditorium in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
The show is sponsored by “Perform for A Cure,” a non-profit organization that helps to inspire young people to use their talents and passions to give back, said Jeff Poulin, the producer of the show.
“It’s not just about cancer or raising money,” said Poulin, who also is the founder of the non-profit. “It’s about working with young people to make them realize they can make a difference through their passions.”
The entertainment for the evening will be a culmination of student’s talent. Six original songs and a fashion show with clothes from local boutiques also will be featured.
Money raised for the evening will be divided among a local support organization, OU Medical Center and a national research organization, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Hillary Conrad, dance performance freshman, said she think “Fashion Now” sounds like a neat idea.
“I think it’s a great way to help raise money for cancer research,” she said. “It also sounds like a good way for other people to see someone’s love for their talent.”
A goal has not been set for the amount of money officials hope to raise, Poulin said.
Tickets will go on sale at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center. Student tickets are $8 and others can purchase tickets for $10.
