Soul food makes the entire world stand still for just one second, just long enough to know that what you just ate was something that can’t be topped.
Mama E’s is a small local restaurant that has two locations in Oklahoma City. The newest location is at 900 W. Reno, while the original location is at 3838 Springlake Drive.
These family-run restaurants are known for one particular dish that is fantastic: fried chicken and waffles.
This is what you go to get at Mama E’s. When you walk in, you might as well have just walked into your living room. The entire staff greets you like family and takes your order by asking how many wings you want and what side you want. After ordering you make your choice of endless ice tea, or never-ending Kool-aid.
Once that’s done they direct you into the dining area. If you didn’t feel like you were in someone’s home already you will now. Here you will find a table and notice walls covered with visitors’ writings. Once you finish your wings and waffle, you’re given a pen to add your own thoughts to the wall.
This restaurant is great for groups of three or four to go grab a bite to eat after classes are finished. It’s also an option if students have time to hang out for a while. The prices are about the same as a standard sit-down, chain place, so around $12-15, give or take taxes.
Regardless of what you consider soul food, everyone should make an effort to visit Mama E’s and experience something amazing.
