OKLAHOMA CITY – The editor-in-chief of Oklahoma City University’s Student Publications staff is one of three collegiate journalists in the state chosen for sponsorship to a national convention.
Amanda Alfanos, mass communications senior, was chosen by the Oklahoma Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists to attend the organization’s national convention. The convention is Oct. 3-5 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Alfanos was chosen from 12 candidates who applied for the sponsorships.
Alfanos leads OCU’s Student Publications staff in the production of four student media products – The Campus newspaper, The Constellation yearbook, The Constellation yearbook DVD supplement, and the student media website, MediaOCU.com.
Alfanos, who came to OCU from Michigan, spent the summer completing an internship at the Shawnee News-Star as part of the Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation’s annual internship program. During her tenure on OCU’s Student Publications staff, Alfanos also has received writing and design awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Oklahoma Collegiate Press Association.
