While opportunities come and go, dance department officials declined a recently-presented offer.
Dancers who auditioned for an upcoming film opportunity in conjunction with the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management and moving image arts department were told the news of the decline Friday, said Emily Coleman, dance performance junior.
Coleman was one of the dancers called back to audition for the film.
“Dates didn’t work out,” she said. “They conflicted with the school.”
Officials did not specify which dance department-related events conflicted with film scheduling, Coleman said.
A contract for the movie called “Yellow” hadn’t been signed at the time of the decline, said Jo Rowan, dance department chairman.
Rowan was uncomfortable commenting further on the topic but suggested Fritz Kiersch, moving image arts department chairman, as a source.
Students auditioning for dance department performance companies are usually given the option to audition for the American Spirit Dance Company, Spirit of Grace Liturgical Dancers and Pep Dancers.
While giving the dancers the option of auditioning for the movie was new this year, this isn’t the first time university officials were presented with a film opportunity, Kiersh said.
“Opportunities like this come and go,” he said.
Sam Beasley, vocal performance/musical theater junior, said officials have kept quiet about the film opportunity.
Beasley takes a class in the dance building.
“I have seen a list on the bulletin board in the dance school about it, but that’s all,” he said. “I just haven’t heard anything about it.”
