FORT WORTH – The women’s golf team finished seventh in Marty McCauley’s first outing at their coach.
McCauley assumed the coaching position this season after five years as men’s assistant at Texas Tech.
The Stars competed in the North Texas Fall Classic, which ended Sept. 14.
Senior Paige Martin tied for 16th place individually in the tournament. She posted a 77-76-75-228.
The five-time NAIA women’s golf champion Stars fired a 313-310-313–936 to finish ahead of four of the 10 NCAA Division I teams in the field.
“It was a good experience,” McCauley said. “Obviously we did not play well, but overall, I felt the girls competed hard. We struggled with our short game and made too many unforced mistakes.”
Senior Laura Jones finished a stroke behind Martin in 18th place. Jones carded a 75-76-78–229.
Sophomore Mary Larsh finished with an 82-77-81–240, while Freshman Tanya Tibshraeny contributed an 81-81-81–243. Sophomore Madison Haley had an 80-85-79–244.
Conditions featured 91-degree temperatures and 10 mph winds on the par-72, 6,102-yard course.
The Stars compete in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Sept. 24-26 at the Jimmie Austin Golf Course in Norman, Okla.
