The Stars had a victorious opening game Aug. 29 at Stars Field. The men’s soccer team beat Huston-Tillotson (Texas) 3-1.
The Texas team played a rough game earning two yellow cards. The Stars’ Senior Mid-Fielder John Dill received a yellow card.
Sophomore Mid-Fielder Ryan Hunter said it’s difficult when an opponent tries to make the game about more than soccer.
“We did well by not stooping down to their level,” he said.
The Stars took the lead early in the 26th minute with a goal from Junior Forward Francis Malalou with an assist from Senior Forward Alex Gang.
Senior Mid-Fielder Stuart Hilton added a goal in the 58th minute of play to extend the Stars’ lead to 2-0.
Freshman Forward Drew Hall made his first collegiate goal in the 81st minute.
OCU outshot Huston-Tillotson 14-9 in the match. Nine Stars players recorded at least one shot.
Hunter said it was a well-played opening game.
“It’s a very good indicator of what’s to come,” he said. “I feel it’s only going to get better from here.”
The next home game for the men is at 11 a.m. Sept. 6 vs. Texas College at Stars Field.
