The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the new physician assistant program at OCU.
Accreditation-Provisional is a status granted when the plans and resources of a proposed program that has not enrolled students appear to demonstrate the ability to meet specific standards or when a program already with the status appears to demonstrate progress, according to ARC-PA’s website, arc-pa.com.
“Achieving this status requires a review of hundreds of details about the program,” said Dan McNeill, director of the PA program, in a press release sent to the campus community Oct. 13. “Out of all of the details, the reviewers found no areas of noncompliance. This is a great way to start our exceptional program.”
University officials decided in Summer 2013 to begin a PA program at OCU.
There are only two PA programs in Oklahoma, both with the University of Oklahoma.
Classes are scheduled to begin in January, according to the press release.
