The National Weather Service predicts 3 to 5 inches of snow in Oklahoma City tonight. Snow will continue into the evening and temperatures will remain in the 20s throughout the night.
University officials are taking precautions and advising students on how to deal with the winter weather.
Students are advised to use extra caution and give themselves extra time to get places, said Ian Wolfe, assistant director of risk management.
“Wear appropriate shoes,” he said. “This is not the right weather for flip flops or high heels.”
Facilities will be treating the sidewalks to prevent ice, but everyone needs to wear proper shoes, Wolfe said.
Snow tracked into buildings also poses a risk to students.
“Be a little extra cautious going in and out of buildings,” he said. “People forget that it gets tracked inside the front doors of building and can become slippery.”
Housekeeping will be trying to mop the floors as quickly as possible, but there is still a risk for slipping inside buildings, Wolfe said.
The Study Abroad Dessert Social and Prexie Club have been canceled, but the university remains open.
