OKLAHOMA CITY — The Distinguished Artist Series at OCU continues at 3 p.m. March 27 with organist Melissa Plamann performing Bach, Mendelssohn, Eben, Vaughan Williams and Reger. The concert will be held in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel on N.W. 23rd Street between Blackwelder and Kentucky avenues.
Plamann specializes in 20th and 21st century American works. She presented a recital of American organ concerto premiers including the debut of Tilo Medek’s “Italienisches Konzert” at Emory University. She has also performed in a concert series in Germany and the Czech Republic.
Plamann is an assistant professor of music at Oklahoma City University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Valparaiso University, a master’s degree in music from Emory University and a doctorate in organ performance from Indiana University-Bloomington.
The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University started its Distinguished Artist Series in the fall to give local audiences a chance to hear master musicians perform.
Mark Parker, dean of the music school, said the series is intended to provide the public with a source for hearing some of the best music the world has to offer performed live.
“This is a chance for people to hear some great musicians perform great masterpieces, and further enrich the cultural offerings of our city,” Parker said.
Tickets for the Plamann organ performance are $10. Tickets are available by calling the OCU ticket office at (405) 208-5227 or by visiting www.okcu.edu/ticketoffice. For updates on events and performances at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, visit www.facebook.com/bassschoolofmusic.
