Consumers will see “keys” to their nutrition on food packaging in the next few months.
The nutrition industry unveiled its voluntary front-package labeling Jan. 26. The labeling, which is titled “nutrition keys,” is designed to help consumers make healthy choices and reverse the obesity epidemic, according to a USA Today article.
Shoppers will begin to see the labels on some packages in the next few months, but they won’t be broadly found until the end of the year, the article states. The program, announced by Grocery Manufacturer’s Association and the Food Marketing Institute, excludes fresh foods such as individually-packaged fruits.
