OCU Athletics is rooted in renowned coaches, national titles and growth. Since joining the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics in 1986, the program has added several nationally recognized sports and won 52 national championships.

Spirit squads train longer for national competitions

Extra practice time may help the spirit squads compete this season. The teams started practices an hour earlier, preparing stunts and routines at 6 a.m. three days a week.

Women’s basketbal reschedules start of SAC season

The first two conference games for women’s basketball were postponed because of bad weather. The team will start their Sooner Athletic Conference season Dec. 17 against Southwest Christian University.

Freshman volleyball player leads team, claims awards

Freshman Outside Hitter Kristen Macy poses Dec. 3 in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center. The Sooner Athletic Conference named Macy its Freshman Volleyball Player of the Year in November.

Kristen Macy expected to fill an important role this year. The university’s volleyball team needed a good outside hitter, she said, and Macy’s coach recruited her for the position.

International student finishes first cross-country season at university


The women’s cross-country team added a player this year who’s brought her passion for running from overseas. “Every morning I wake up happy to run, happy to go to practice,” said Sara Moore, freshman from Omagh, Ireland.

The men’s wrestling program has hired Nikolas Turner, a former member of the wrestling team, as the new assistant coach.

Turner wrestled at OCU from 2007-2012 and is replacing former assistant coach John Wilcox.
