Parts of the university are still without power, but Oklahoma Gas & Electric is on campus working to restore it.
Leslie Berger, senior director of university communications, sent out an email updating students on the situation:
OG&E is continuing to work to restore power to portions of the OCU campus. Crews will be replacing a transformer that helps power the east side of campus. OG&E does not yet have a time estimate for completion. Crews also are working to restore power to a portion of Cokesbury Apartments.
Other areas of campus have power and the university is using generators to power critical functions where needed.
The Cafeteria will be open regular hours today and the library will open this afternoon.
Further updates will follow as information is available.
Mackenzie Reitz, dance sophomore, lives in Building 6 in Cokesbury Court Apartments and said she didn’t have power for a while but that it didn’t bother her too much.
“For whatever reason, my bedroom has internet Overall this experience could be worse,” she said. “I don’t believe I’ve suffered from not having power in the long run.”
Reitz said she lost power around 5:30 a.m. yesterday, but it was restored by 9 a.m. this morning.
