College is prime dating time, but most social engagements cost money, reservations, and transportation.
Here are eight activities for you and your special someone to enjoy together without spending money or leaving campus.
1. Movie night
Ask a librarian at the circulation desk to name their favorite movie. Find that movie in the second floor collection, check it out, and cuddle up in the computer lab. You and your date will have to check out separate headphones and finish before midnight, but the other people talking and eating food nearby will make it feel just like a movie theater!
2. Serenaded stroll
Have you ever wanted to take a romantic walk with your significant other while talented musicians play beautiful music? Well, you could pay a fortune for a personal mariachi band. Or, you could grab your date’s hand and lead them through the hallways of the practice rooms. You don’t even have to commit to a single genre!
3. Romantic dinner in Alvin’s (Warning: potentially hazardous)
Grab your bedsheet, a CD, and a coffee mug. Fill the mug with twigs and leaves on your way to Alvin’s. Spread the bedsheet over the table of your choice. Stick the CD in the microwave, and use the sparks to ignite your foliage, creating a candle for your table centerpiece. Then, order some pasta or use points to buy Cup Noodles to eat Lady and the Tramp style.
4. Attend a private ball
Don your most elegant formal-wear, and pretend Meinders School of Business is your home. Ask your date to play a song on the grand piano while you descend the staircase with a shy but beautiful gaze. Grab your date and waltz your heart out. If you get kicked out, reset and repeat in the Bass Atrium.
5. Watch a sunrise
Join the Chickasaw warrior, facing boldly toward the east. Sit on the benches under his mighty stance, and watch night turn into day as the sun ascends into the sky.
6. Tour a gallery
Dress up like prospective students, grab a tour guide from the Visitor’s Center, and ask for a detailed tour of the Hall of Queens. Stare at a portrait with a critical expression for several moments, before discussing artistic differences with your date.
7. Attend a baseball game
It’s an age-old American tradition. Take your date to the Jim Wade Stadium, cheer for the Stars, and hope they can reach more bases than you.
8. The birds and the bees
Can’t get your mind off it? No worries. OCU is home to a beehive and several birdhouses. First, observe the bees in their hive next to the community garden. Then, take your date on a scavenger hunt to find all the birdhouses around campus. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, look inside for a nest and eggs.
