The grounds crew found a “suspicious device” this morning and immediately called the university police department, who soon recognized the device as a smoke grenade, officials said.

The grenade, which can reach extremely high temperatures and produce a massive amount of smoke, will not explode, officials said.

Officials contacted the Oklahoma City Police Department’s bomb squad. They came to campus to secure the device and then removed it for investigation.

The university police department is searching the campus for similar devices, officials said. None have been discovered thus far.

Students who see a suspicious device on or near campus are advised to call the campus police department at (405) 208-5001.
