Vicky Murphy

Junior Right-Side Hitter Vicky Murphy said it was a good game.

“It’s a good win for us because it’s our second conference game so now we are 2-0,” she said.

OCU built a first-set 11-6 lead with four points in a row. Senior Right-Side Hitter Xiaoting Ma had two kills and a block during that stretch. Mid-America responded to take 20-18 and 22-20 edges.

Xiaoting Ma

Ma compiled her eighth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 10 digs to go with two blocks for OCU.

Junior Middle Back Alex Benbrook added 10 kills, and Junior Libero Victoria crosspicked up 20 digs for the Stars. Junior Setter Samantha Ball dished out 15 assists and Freshman Setter Danielle Robison chipped in 18 assists and eight digs.

Robison said the crowd was a big help.

“The wrestlers were there and it’s awesome to have such good support,” she said.

OCU tallied six of the final eight points of the third set.

Murphy said that the team has some areas where they need to improve.

“We need to keep our intensity throughout the whole of the game,” she said. “We need to keep our passing consistent and not let the other team get any runs.”

Head coach Jen Gomez said she thinks it’s good to be ahead early in the season but not get comfortable with it.

“We are headed in the right direction but everyday we need to keep working to get better,” she said.

The next home game is at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 vs Oklahoma Baptist at Abe Lemons Arena.
